Everything was red

I was around 5/6 years old when I had this dream, I am now 50 but still remember it clearly.

Where I lived at the time there was a lane that went behind a row of houses so you could get access to the back of the properties.

My friend (who lived 2 doors down) and I were walking up the lane together and I had my dolls pram that I was pushing, the houses were on our left and to the right was just fields.

As we were walking a snake shot out in front of us, from the field to the garden at the back of our house, I wasn't scared of the snake and I don't remember my friend or I saying anything.

We were walking along, the snake crossed in front of us and that was the dream but the only colour in the dream was red, everything was red, the fields, the sky, the snake everything, all different shades of red.

I very rarely remember dreams and even if I wake and remember a dream it is usually gone out of head by the end of the day, this dream has been with me for 45 years?

I often wonder what the significance is of this dream that it has stayed with me for so long. I was a happy child in a happy family, no trauma or major issues going on.

Would love to hear any thoughts to the meaning of my red dream.

Hi Little Miss Sarky. Dreams use images instead of words. The snake can be a symbol which we might use the word PROBLEM or TRAP in spoken language. Just think of any context which you might have used the word problem at the time. Think of thoughts like this - "My mum keeps telling me what to do if I have a problem."

Maybe the dream stuck with you because the dream represented an important lesson you were learning.

Red is the colour of stop so you might have had something drummed into you as a child by your mother. You may have led a sheltered life with no traumas but that is because you listened to your mom LOL.

Also you and your friend say nothing. If you had the dream now you would be able to think about situations where you and your friend said nothing. A dream can capture a thought process and this dream could capture any thought such as "when it happened me and my friend felt it best to say nothing and pretend that nothing happened".

But dreams link to the here and now and it is too long ago for you to remember what was going on in your mind at the time.

A snake in dreams can be many things: the feminine goddess, sexuality, feminine power, healing. The color red is a passionate color, and in Catholic liturgy, the color of the Passion, the death of Christ. It see this as perhaps an early, "coming of age," dream. Some part of childhood might have been dying, perhaps some attitude or innocence. You and your shadow (friend) were walking in a hidden space, behind houses, not in the front where we show our faces to the world. . There is some sort of unexpected or previously hidden passion that is just beginning to make itself known.
I want to give you the six magic questions. You can ask these questions of the snake, your friend, our even the color red. If I were you, I would work with this dream now.
1. What or who are you?
2. What is your purpose?
3. What do you like about being you?
4. What do you dislike?
5. What do you fear?
6. If your fear came to pass, what would happen then?

Get yourself into a relaxed space and mind and just answer the first thing that comes to mind. This would also be a great dream to draw or collage.
