Music in dreams relating to dream experiences?

Anybody experience music in sleep-dreams - where dream content matches the meaning behind specific music?

I had recently experienced a dream with Bob Dylan's 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door.' In the dream, I was walking-up stairs in the dark (guided-along by an unknown symbolic guide). Upon reaching a tall, rather unassuming looking, greenish/purple door, I noted bright light shining through the cracks in the door - all while I was...........knocking on the door.

I woke-up with that "WHOA feeling" - hence, it's unknown how this dream would have concluded.

Hey there!

I totally get that "WHOA feeling" you're talking about. Music in dreams can be incredibly powerful and often ties deeply to the emotions or themes we're experiencing in our subconscious. Your dream with Bob Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" is fascinating, especially with the imagery of climbing stairs in the dark and knocking on a door with light shining through the cracks.

The song itself is often associated with themes of transition, facing the unknown, and seeking peace, which seems to resonate with the symbolism in your dream. The guide and the light might represent a journey toward understanding or enlightenment, while the act of knocking suggests you're on the verge of discovering something important.

I've had similar experiences where the music in my dreams seemed to amplify the message or mood of the dream. It's like our subconscious uses familiar songs to communicate deeper meanings. You can have another explanation on this website Dream Interpreter ai. Keep paying attention to these dream details—they can offer incredible insights into your inner world!

Cheers!

After this recent dream of going up an imaginary stairway, to the song, 'Knockin on Heaven's Door,' I remembered a dream long-ago with the 1971 Led Zeppelin song, 'Stairway to Heaven' - a dream that featured no fitting dream imagery.

I had many dreams with songs commonly played on the radio from the 1960s through the 1980s when I was a kid - some of these songs are still periodically played to this day.

Personally, it's uncommon for songs to closely relate to dream-experiences, yet a dream experience relating closely to a song is very rare.

I have a website about dreams and in the database of dreams there is 18 dreams which feature music. Try the following link and at the bottom of the page is links to all the music dreams.

Music in dreams

My favourite is the dream which features the song "nearer my god to thee". The dream had a simple meaning as it linked to me dreading the day ahead. The song "Nearer my God to thee" made me think of the film Titanic which featured the ships band playing during the long time as the ship is about to sink (the Titanic took two hours to sink).

I think a lot of dreams capture your emotional mood as you sleep. You woke up with the WHAO feeling so its really an emotional dream whose meaning is simply that you woke up feeling good.

Just dreamed of 'The Rolling Stones' song 'Gimme Shelter' while I experienced views of about three dozen cassette-tape covers of what appeared like the British bands/artists from the sixties, seventies, and early eighties - The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Beatles solo artists, the lesser-know music etc. etc. etc. In the dream, I was viewing the cassette tapes from bed - sleeping on my back.

I'm certain why I had this dream - the music in this dream is the music I listened-to mostly on radio growing-up. Lately, I've listened to plently of this music online. I related to so many of the comments posted with online music choices - comments which often pointed-out that such music (popular with youth at the time) was genius - compared to the present-day junk of interest to youth present day.

More often than not, the awesome music I enjoyed from the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s were created by British artists/bands - living-proof that the 'British Invasion' extended far beyond 'The Beatles!'

P.S I listened to 'The Rolling Stones' 'Gimme Shelter' while imagining the above described dream before I posted this response.

My dream (the previous night as of this writing) was the 1970s Disco dance song 'I Never Can Say Goodbye' by 'Gloria Gaynor.' Gaynor had such a dynamic voice. In this dream, I was dancing in a dance-hall free from the gimmicky lighting, and outlandish outfits common in the 1970s Disco Era. The dream seemed to be in black-and white.
This was a fun dream.

I never had real-life experiences esp. considering that I was too young in the late 1970s to experience a discotecque - with such dynamic singers as Gloria Gayonor - playing 'I Never Can Say Goodbye.' I might just have had this dream based-on how the song 'I Never Can Say Goodbye' did a great job of conveying the 1970s disco-scence. I've enjoyed listenting to this song with matching video images over the years - a song still periodically played to this day on the radio.

Once had a dream very similar to a promotional commercial of a new Las Vegas casino themed after the old-mid-century design style of Las Vegas casinos. In the background, Frank Sinatra's 'Luck be a Lady' could be heard.

A restored 1950s era sky-blue Ford Thunderbird was seen driving-up to the Casino's front entrance. People were exiting the vehicle, and were enthusiastically hurring into thr casion to enjoy the expreice of an old-school era casino.

Most of the floor space was occupied with table games, bars, and a stage.

In this dream, I was present at what appeared as an old-style version of a video casino-game, resmebling a cross betwen an 'Etch-a-Sketch, and a 1970s era video Pong game. (no such game has ever existed). I was wagering on a game that felt as equal parts luck, and skill. This game could share similaries to an early version of video poker.

As the afternoon sun shifted to a late afternoon sun, I noted what looked-like a pool outside a window surrounded by mid-century type cinder block walls - block walls whose style allowed sunlight to shine through. This pool was not in use at the time, and appeared surrounded by several potted vine plants.

I had stepped outside via the front entrance, and took a close look at the 1950s era sky-blue Ford T-Bird - while noting the current year vehicles traveling by on the main street. At that time, the last lines of Sinatra's 'Luck be a Lady' played loudly.

My best guess why I had this dream: There may be that growing back-to-the-future theme in Las Vegas at a future time to build old-stlye casinos.

Awhile back, I had a dream that I was a part of a group of a couple of dozen people - each person with their own hand-held musical instrument. each person was experimenting with their musical instrument until the sound throughout the group resembled the opening few seconds of Barry Manilow's 1970s song, 'CopaCabana.' Not bad for the collective experience of amateurs.

I felt that WHOA feeling, and mentioned to the person next to me - 'this was the opening few seconds of that Barry Manilow song."

Yes definitely I once had a dream I was in a lush field, every path I took led to a fruit tree, then I heard music but it was rather classical music, which stayed with me in my waking state, on following the frequency I entered through magnificent doors of a white fortress, here I found myself in a purification room where I seemed to be emptying my bowels on a sacred toilet, as I left I was among other people they were bathing in water, we were all naked only a white cloth that draped over us, then I entered a large hall, met with many gods around a table, my fruits were delivered to them on a golden tray, they tasted my fruits as I saw their eyes sparkle with delight, I was presented with a floating purse, with a golden aura coming from it, then I woke. So yes always follow the music wherever it may lead you 🙏

Ah, a great subject to revive! I've also had music in dreams, music-influenced dreams, and even music-as-the-theme-of-expression/communication dreams. I'm convinced that dreams can use anything (without limits) as methods of communication, even if that is the less cerebral communication of the evocative, or a "music mood" or "resonance". I suspect the more in tune (sorry, couldn't resist) a person is with music, the more likely it is for dreams to use that in its broad set of communication methods. Does this make sense to you? If music is close to you, then it *means* something important and is therefore a good way to get a form of communication through a dream.

Aussie_musician, if you can recall plenty of details to your dream and have some interesting talking points about it, I'd encourage you to post it in its own thread rather than risk it being lost by attaching it to another. Personally, I'd love to discuss more about the intersection of music and dreaming with you. In any case, Alice is right in her wish/blessing, for music can lead you to important understandings, and even more so in the highly complex realm of dream communications.
