The Accident and the Teacher

Recently, there was a car accident in my country where five people tragically lost their lives (I think this is important to mention because of the dream I had).

I dreamt that I was in a cafe, and I saw a teacher who used to teach me in high school. I never liked her, and I don’t even remember the last time I saw her, so the fact that I dreamt about her was strange. In the dream, she looked very sad. She left and sat at another table where a woman (who seemed like a friend) was waiting for her. I don’t remember who was sitting with me, but I do remember commenting to that person that the teacher seemed very tired, sad, and pale. The person sitting with me replied that it was no wonder she looked like that, considering her daughter had died. I was shocked. The person handed me a news article that described the exact same accident that had happened in real life, with the names of the people who had died. On that list was the teacher’s daughter, who was my age, and I only knew her by sight from school (I hadn’t seen her since I finished high school and hadn’t thought about her at all). In the dream, I remember feeling very sad and overwhelmed with anxiety because of the situation. The last thing I remember is leaving the cafe and, as I was about to walk out, glancing at the teacher one more time, but she was now laughing and talking with the woman at her table.

The dream seems very strange to me, firstly because I have no idea why I would dream of people I haven’t thought about in years, and secondly because the teacher in the dream went from looking sad and pale to laughing and chatting in just a short time.

I would really appreciate it if someone could explain this to me.

Well analysing someone elses dream is never easy because many symbols are personal. But if you do not understand a dream then you have to make associations with it. You will find that a dream may seem totally strange but in fact it just imitates real life. For instance you felt a sense of shock in the dream. If you felt a sense of shock in real life then the dream could be about that issue. That is an association. It may seem totally unrelated but that is how dreams work.

You could think up other associations. The dream features a teacher who you never liked. Were you thinking about someone the day before the dream who you similarly didn't like. Then that is an association.

Try to think about the issues which we know will trigger dreams. Think of issues which you might write down in a diary or tell a best friend. These are the sorts of issues which cause dreams because many dreams link to the day before.

Try this page as it deals with feeling OVERWHELMED IN DREAMS

If we say that everyone in the dream is a part of the dreamer, then it would be useful to write about what you didn't like about the teacher. These things are in you, as well. And maybe they are not all negative, as the, "teacher had a daughter." However, the daughter had died, that is, stayed in the shadow out of consciousness, and maybe that needs to come into consciousness. For example, was the teacher strict and did she have very high standards? Would that be something needed in your life now?
There is transformation in the dream, as the teacher goes from lifeless to laughing and being whole. This might indicate that those characteristics in your shadow have already begun to bear fruit in your life. Some young, feminine quality might be being reborn.
