The Locket

I had this dream about six or seven ago. I was going through a very difficult time in my life including a spiritual crises.

I was walking through the rubble of a wrecked/burned down building which was white and red. I was being guided out by a woman, I have no idea who she was. Around my neck was a gold locket, it was closed. As we left the remains of the building and were outside on the stoop (or what was left of it), there on the ground was another gold locket. I turned around and bent down to pick it up. I opened the locket and inside was a picture of my mother. I covered her hair with my thumbs and it was a picture of me. I said out loud in a matter of fact tone of voice, "I should have gone back". The woman behind me observed me doing this with an expressionless face, no judgement, no emotion. End of dream.

There's a lot of meaning in this short dream, but the one thing I never could figure out and what always drives me bonkers is... what is in the locket around my neck?

I believe that dreams link to conscious thoughts rather than vague unconscious thoughts. So you will have been all to aware of what triggered your dream. It would have been the type of thought which you may tell a best friend or write down in a diary. Since you have given some background knowledge about how you were feeling at the time then it makes things a lot easier. How could this dream link to a spiritual crisis? The locket is closed so that could hint at the spiritual crisis that you were feeling. The locket then may link to something that is important to you (spiritual matters) which strengthen you and make you feel connected. The second locket is of your mother which could hint how you were turning away from spiritual strengths to a need fro a more maternal support needs. Can you add any details if possible. Did you feel more connected to your mother or mother figures and family in general due to your spiritual crisis

Gosh, that's a gorgeous dream. The gold shining in the rubble. The shape of a locket is round, which in Jungian therapy is the Mandala, the whole, the Self. One might call it a symbol of God. Could the locket around your neck symbolize the spiritual qualities that you always have? Something intrinsic to you that is not lost in any spiritual crisis? Gold appears in fairy tales, legends, and religious stories. It is profoundly symbolic and stands for God and the true self. During a very challenging time in your life your psyche gave you a beautiful dream, and it became a talisman for you, a touch point that you will always have.
Your mother may represent the Great Mother, called by many names in many cultures, but representing creativity, nurturing, and the feminine qualities of compassion and mercy. You have this within yourself. I have dream envy!! LOL...ps: we don't have enough info to know what, "I should have gone back," might mean.

The linger emotional attachment to the past you feel. It's a beautiful attachment but the don't let it make you feel like you have to look back and feel nothing. It simply is what it is now, cherish it.
