Interesting and amusing comparison on the surface.
And yet, existence is anything but binary...so, why would the dream try to force you to choose between two bad choices with nothing viable as an alternative? (And I am talking in icons/symbols, not personalities/individuals, because I don't know enough about the inner workings of either man, nor what the dream expected of the choice between them.) Are you sure that your simplifying isn't clouding other options (like, through various means, the option to reject both)? Did you have the clear impression of it being all about one "brand" over the other and perceived lack of choice, or something greater? (I submit that sometimes dreams present us with simplifications, not so we can be limited, but so that we can struggle against those limitations and learn from this.) So perhaps...was part of the actual message hidden or implied in this and waiting for you to dig deeper? The clues might be in the details you left out, and inquiring minds want to know. Also the reason I ask in this way is I had a dream last night where I had traveled away from crumbling society to gain peace in the "wilderness" (representing the lack of societal foolishness and inevitable consequences). Yet before long, a small group of people "led" by someone who was all gung-ho about his understandings and his rightness (course of action) came along and was setting up camp close to mine. Watching them and hearing some of their arguments, I was considering talking with them to see if they (and in particular, the most...energetic guy) were open to different ideas than his premise, which was formed in the belief that coercion-thinking/planning is the only reality; though, I suspect that in the dream I was leaning toward not bothering--ie, considering the problems of his ingrained assumptions and attached inflexibility versus any potential worth/insight, and I slowly drifted awake before I fully made that choice. But of course now I am dwelling on it.

Talking about those men in symbols makes me understand your post, but then it woyld be a symbol of the sacred ( for me) and EM a symbol for the crazy...And both words are also pretty close...
