The Hunter

This dream takes place in a green meadow of thigh high grass, it's approaching evening. I am accompanied by an unknown older male figure and a reddish brown short haired hunting dog.

In the meadow is a large deer, I felt excitement and a sense of purpose as I commanded the dog to go after the deer. There is a short pursuit and I find the deer laying down but uninjured. I heft the large animal onto my shoulders and back to our camp where the older man is sitting on a log. He looks at me and tells me I was not supposed to do go after the deer. I felt a bit foolish, so I released the animal and watched it as it bounded off...

Hunter and prey analogies all over the place, why did you feel like you weren't suppose to go over the deer? Just because the older hunter said not to?
Sure he's wise, but what were you out hunting for? Or were you just tracking. And it interesting to see the deer/prey lay down before you like that... like it seemed just too easy.

He seemed to be a guide. I remember feeling proud of my catch. When I returned to him, he gave me this look like "what are you doing" maybe I took it upon myself to go after the deer when I wasn't supposed to, maybe I was only supposed to track it.

On yeah that's a very good point Helia!
It's also associated with legends like Artemis.
So this would be fairly symbolic.
